Jan. 24: Friday's College Squash Association match between fourth-ranked St. Lawrence and third-ranked Yale at Yale was just as close as the national rankings indicated it would be as the Elis pulled out a 5-4 decision to hand the Saints their first loss of the year after eight straight wins.
SLU, which plays at second-ranked Harvard on Saturday, turned in a solid effort against Yale which used its strength in the middle of the lineup for the team win.
Amr Khalifa improved to 2-0 on the season with a 11-2, 11-5, 11-8 win over Neil Martin at one and
Moustafa Bayoumy bumped his record to 7-0 with a 11-6, 11-3, 12-10 win over Sen Fenwick at two.
Yale then won at three through six with Zach Leman getting past Ibriham Khan 9-11, 11-3, 11-6, 11-1 at three, Thomas Dembriske winning 11-6, 11-2, 11-6 over
Vir Seth at four, Kah Wah Cheong winning 11-6, 11-4, 11-6 in his match with
Kyle Ogilvy at five and Liam McClintock winning 11-7, 11-9, 6-11, 11-9 against Sebastian Reidelsheimer at six.
Anderson Good came from two games down to beat Charlie Wyatt of Yale 3-2, winning game one 11-7 before Wyatt took 11-9 and 11-4 decisions, Good won game four 11-8 to tie the match and won the decisive fifth game 11-4. Saint junior
Chris Fernandez then had an epic battle with Eric Caine with Caine pulling the match out 3-2. Fernandez won game one 11-5, Caine came back with a 13-11 win in game two and Fernandez won game three 11-7. Caine then won game four 12-10 and closed it with a 11-8 win in game five.
Duncan Maxwell won his match at nine, beating Joseph Roberts 11-5, 10-12, 12-10, 13-11 and Tim Lasusa won the exhibition match at 10 over Peter Dewire, 14-12, 8-11, 11-9, 11-4.
